Day 3 of The Crafty Project: Stall Rest, Sort of

Laura Hynds has been working with Crafty daily and has gained his trust and he is clearly bonded to her already.  This horse is used to living in the equivalent of an open dorm room and is finding his quarentine to be very lonely and boring.  Lucky for him he has a little fan club to visit him daily.

Here's some quick facts on Crafty. He is a 4 year old thoroughbred, he measures in just above 16.2hh and will finish at or above 16.3hh.  He is by Big E E (Jolie's Halo/ Tri Jet) out of Jetty (Siphon/Royal Roberto). He contains three crosses to Hail to Reason and two crosses to Fleet Nasrullah.  Leah Dyck will be in touch with a comprehensive pedigree break down for all the pedigree nerds out there.  He was born April 6, 2012
Welcome to the Crafty Project!
We will be doing regular updates and tracking Crafty's progress on this blog, so please follow along.
Here's the back story:
Dr, Jodi Santerosa of Brightside Vet got word of a young thoroughbred that had popped a rather large splint.  As this fellow is built like a sport horse, not a wiry thoroughbred and found the track environment rather over whelming, the owners felt that it was not worth the couple months of rehab and re-conditioning just to bring back a horse that doesn't really belong at the track to begin with.

Jodi got in touch with Leah Dyck of Stone Clad Farms and Laura Hynds of HyndSight 20/20 to see if there was some interest in him.  That's where I come in.  While these three were meeting Crafty at the track I happened to call Leah, lamenting the fact that I wanted another project horse.  Serendipitous indeed.

So, we have Laura Hynds, who specializes in restarting horses, with a special gift for those with difficult pasts and traumas, Jodi Santerosa, a DVM with a specialty in alternative medicine and energy work, Leah Dyck, a horse care specialist and Equine Assisted Learning facilitator and myself, a human physiotherapist, A-circuit rider and trainer with a rehab/prehab focus for equine athletes.

It took one day to arrange and a further day to get him home.  Crafty is currently in quarentine from the rest of the herd and stall rest to prevent further injury to his splint. Check out blog post number 2 for information about the NEW style of stall rest we will be incorporating.

Crafty has settled into his new routine and has already bonded with Laura Hynds.  I will be working on a thorough biomechanical assessment and prehab routine that I'll be sharing on this blog.  We will also be tracking his story on here including some of the amazing interactions and abilities he has already demonstrated.  Stay tuned, this one is special!
